Every year, the Festival of St Mark (or Feria de San Marcos for the bilingual readers) is held every year in mid-April for approximately 3 weeks, in the city of Expoplaz, Aguascalientes, Mexico. The exact dates are inconclusive but the fair is usually set around April 25th, which is the day of the main feast.

The fair has been a tradition in the Mexican town since 1828 and attracts about one million visitors each year. The annual fair includes exhibitions, a beauty pageant, rodeos, free concerts, the National Poetry Award and a plethora of other cultural events.
Past performers in the fair’s concerts include Shakira (I know!) and Julio Iglesias (I KNOW!!!) but the most popular events are the bullfights. It’s a major feature of the fair and they take place in the Plaza de Toros Monumental bullring. The night is also filled with a host of street parties that last until sunrise.
April 25th is the feast day of St Mark and features a colorful parade that includes decorative costumes, along with folk and flamenco dances. The state of Aguascalientes literally translates to “hot water”, and the name is not deceiving. So take some time to learn why the town is well known for its geothermal springs at the Baños Termales de Ojocaliente.
